Program Notes
A Sweetening All Around Me is based on a poem of (approximately) the same name by one of my favorite poets, Jane Hirshfield, which deals with cycles, seasons, and the slow, patient pace of life and nature. The piece attempts to capture the balance between seeking and accepting, our hunger to hurry things along versus the eventual knowledge that we can only settle back into the pace of things, let the slow march of time be slow.
